Luca Lazzara

Captain Luca Lazzara is a 737 pilot for a major European airline based in Italy and he has a passion for making connections between people and stories.

With over 10,000 hours and more than 200 different airports in his logbook, spread across two decades in the aviation industry, Luca loves flying passengers across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, something he dreamed of since he was a child. While he was still living in the UK, he discovered the photograph online of the Swordfish that inspired this book, and his research on ‘The lost Bismarck Swordfish’ hit the headlines both in the UK and Italy in 2021 on the 80th Anniversary of the sinking of the famous German battleship. His work means that he often traces the flight paths of many of those courageous aviators, giving him a unique connection between the past and present.

Originally from the picturesque town of Cefalù on the north coast of Sicily, his hometown is the focus for the story of the Swordfish mission. Luca initially trained to design yachts and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business, specializing in aviation, and is now coaching others in the industry.
